Electric Porsche Cayenne to debut in late 2025

Porsche will unveil an electric version of its top-selling Cayenne midsize SUV later this year, CEO Oliver Blume revealed during a Q&A session at the automaker's annual general meeting on Wednesday.

Porsche will unveil an electric version of its best-selling Cayenne midsize SUV later this year, CEO Oliver Blume confirmed during Wednesday's annual general meeting.

Sales are expected to begin in 2026, positioning the electric Cayenne as a 2027 model for U.S. showrooms. Production will take place at the same Volkswagen Group facility in Bratislava, Slovakia, that builds the current gas-powered Cayenne.

Porsche announced electric Cayenne plans over a year ago. Prototypes of both the standard body style and the sleeker Cayenne Coupe have been spotted testing publicly since then.

The electric Cayenne represents a true next-generation design built on VW Group's PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture—the same platform underpinning the electric Macan.

The Macan EV's PPE implementation features a 100-kWh (95-kWh usable) battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive. The Turbo model produces 630 hp, but the larger Cayenne will likely deliver even more—possibly through a quad-motor configuration.

The gas-powered Cayenne will remain in production despite its electric sibling's arrival. On sale since 2019 and updated for 2024, the combustion Cayenne sold 102,889 units last year—nearly one-third of Porsche's total volume.

Given this popularity and slower-than-expected premium EV adoption, Porsche will keep the gas Cayenne available well into the next decade with ongoing updates. Another refresh is expected next year, likely incorporating technology from the electric variant.

The gas-powered Macan faces a different fate, ending production in 2026. Porsche is evaluating a separate combustion-powered SUV in the same segment for a potential late-decade launch.
