Alpine is targeting a seven-car lineup by decade's end, including a spiritual successor to the iconic 1970s A310 sports car—this time powered by batteries.
Engineers from the French performance brand were recently spotted testing an early prototype of what appears to be the electric A310. The test mule—an early-stage prototype using a makeshift body to house new mechanicals—borrows its shell from a Ligier JS2 R race car, modified to fit the new underpinnings.
The prototype's appearance will likely differ significantly from the production model, though the butterfly doors may carry over to the final design.
With sales not expected until 2028, development still has far to go. By then, Alpine may have established a U.S. presence, having previously announced plans for a 2027 American launch with two SUVs competing against the Porsche Macan and Cayenne.

True to its predecessor, the modern A310 will offer 2+2 seating, distinguishing it from the smaller, lighter electric A110 two-seater arriving in late 2026 or early 2027. Both models will ride on Alpine's proprietary Alpine Performance Platform (APP), developed by Hypercar Alpine—the skunkworks division behind Renault's Formula 1 power units now used by the Alpine F1 team. Earlier plans for a joint A110 development with Lotus have been shelved.
The APP platform prioritizes lightweight construction and advanced torque-vectoring via multi-motor powertrains. The A310 is expected to adopt the same three-motor configuration (one front, two rear) debuting in the A390 compact crossover this May.
Borrowing from Alpine's F1 heritage, the A310 will likely feature steering-wheel controls for OV (Overtake) and RCH (Recharge) modes—a power-boost function and adjustable brake energy recovery, respectively.
Alpine's naming convention is systematic: "A" denotes the brand, the first digit indicates size and positioning, and the final two digits differentiate sporty models ("10") from lifestyle variants ("90"). The A110 sports car and A290 hatchback exemplify this structure, with the A390 crossover and a future supercar completing the lineup.
