From the Florida Keys and Puerto Rico to Mexico, the Caribbean, and beyond, these are the easiest beach escapes from the U.S. for warm weather, nonstop flights, and stress-free winter getaways.

In the dead of winter, when the holiday cheer has waned, and the weather outside gets a little too frightful, you may be looking to the friendly skies for somewhere to trade snow for sunshine—no need to go far from home, though. From surfing on a Puerto Rican island to walking Costa Rica’s white sands, these are ten of the easiest beach escapes to take this winter.

The Florida Keys are one of the easiest winter beach escapes for many, and it’s the driest time of year in the Keys. Temperatures hover around 78 degrees year-round, and water temperatures are mild, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Plus, al fresco dining is still in full swing everywhere from Key Largo to Key West.

Winters in the Bahamas are near perfect, with 70- to 80-degree weather conditions, low humidity, and clear skies. Dive into the warm waters to explore the coral reefs or the island’s famous Blue Hole. It’s also an optimal time for deep-sea fishing enthusiasts. From November to April is the peak season, so getting to the Bahamas couldn’t be easier. There’s usually an increase in flight frequency from hubs like Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta. Nassau’s airport is less than 20 minutes from Downtown, and island hopping between Bahamian islands is accessible via ferry or short-haul flights.

One of the best times to experience Rio’s vibrant energy and famous beachscapes is at the top of the year. Carnival, a beautiful celebration of music and culture, takes place each February, making it a busy yet easily accessible time to experience the city. At Copacabana, walk the lively promenade full of food vendors selling fruit-flavored Caipirinhas. Nature lovers should head to Baja de Tijuca for a more laid-back beach experience. American Airlines and Delta both offer regular nonstop flights between Miami, New York, and Atlanta to Rio de Janeiro.

Bright skies, 80 degree weather, and fewer crowds than other neighboring destinations make Belize an ideal place to trade snow for sun and sand. Once on the ground, Belize tends to be more experienced than some of its Central American neighbors, but staying in places like Caye Caulker — known for its beaches — instead of the uber-popular Ambergris Caye makes savings easier. Public transportation options include the water taxi and a bus system, which has fares ranging from BZ$10 to BZ$40 ($5-20 USD). Direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver make getting to Belize a breeze.

While it’s snowy in much of the mainland U.S., Puerto Rico offers dry, tropical, and beach-perfect weather. U.S. citizens don’t need a passport to visit, and over 100 daily nonstop flights are available from cities like New York, Chicago, and Miami. With over 300 beaches on the island, getting there is easy, but choosing where to swim, snorkel, surf, or sail isn’t. For many, San Juan is the first and final stop, but the island has so much to offer in just a road trip away. Flamenco Beach is a standout in Culebra, an island in Puerto Rico’s archipelago known for its active reef and white-sand beaches. The easiest way to get there from San Juan’s airports, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport or Isla Grande Airport, is on a 35-minute flight.

Along Mexico’s west coast, the Riviera Nayarit is beloved for its pristine shorelines and year-round sunshine. With direct flights from Los Angeles, surfing in Sayulita or relaxing poolside on a luxury Punta Mita resort is a breeze. Plan to land at Tepic-Riviera Nayarit Airport (TPQ), where a newly expanded highway has made the time from the runway in Tepic to the beach corridor in just 40 minutes.

With about nine hours of sunshine per day in February and March, the Dutch Caribbean island makes it an ideal escape for snowbirds looking to escape the U.S. winter. Daily nonstop flights from Miami will have you in Curaçao in under four hours. Charlotte, Atlanta, and New York also have regular departures on JetBlue, American, and Delta. Once in Willemstad, Hato International Airport is a 20-minute drive from the city center. The best way to get there is by car, although a bus system connects the airport to the city, which can be a slow option. It’s high season on the island, so events like the 6-week-long Curaçao Carnival and Tumba Festival will add a lively touch to your getaway. The island’s bluest beaches are hugged by limestone cliffs and made of white sand along the Northwestern edge in Westpunt, a snorkeler’s paradise.

February is the middle of the dry season along Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. With rainfall at a minimum, it’s the perfect time for a winter escape to Guanacaste, a white-sand-beach paradise with luxury resorts and surf culture, or Manuel Antonio, for wildlife sightings, hiking trails, and beaches like Playa Manuel Antonio, Playa Espadilla Sur, which are located inside of Manuel Antonio National Park. More than a dozen U.S. cities offer nonstop flights, making it easy to reach. For Guanacaste visits, you’ll want to arrive at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia. Flying into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO), which often offers cheaper flights, in San Jose, is ideal for a trip to Manuel Antonio.

The weather outside may be frightful at home, but from December to March, Cape Town’s weather is beach perfect. Getting there is easy with direct flights from New York, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. After landing, reaching the city center only takes about 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. The Western Cape metropolis is lined with waterfront restaurants and bars renowned for their perfectly pink and orange sunsets along Camps Bay. Head to Clifton Beach 1 or 2 for cool waters and fewer crowds than the most popular, Clifton 4. At the same time, just a short drive away in the winelands, such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, it’s harvest season, making it one of the best times to visit for all things wine, from cellar tours and tastings to even grape stomping.

Much like its neighbor, Curacao, Aruba is one of the best places to escape winter in the U.S. If you land between the start of the year and mid-February, it’s the heart of Carnival season, a time when the island is in full celebration mode. Its tropical weather is nearly perfect. The Trade Winds provide just the right amount of breeze for your days on beaches like Palm Beach, a two-mile strip known for its white sand and turquoise waters. Depending on traffic, you can be at the beach in about 20 minutes from Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad.
